Adventures in Moscow

After a few days in St. Petersburg, we took our first overnight train ride of the journey and got off the train in Moscow.

We checked into Godzillas Hostel (which is nice and we recommend it!) and set out to explore the Kremlin and Red Square.

According to our guidebook, 'kremlin' means 'fortress inside a city' and the site has been inhabited since the second century BC.
To see the view from standing in the middle of the Red Square, zoom in at the left side and then scroll right.

We also learned that the Red Square is not named for Communism or bloodshed; the word for "red" in old Russian also meant "beautiful."

Our first day in Moscow, we just walked around and explored the Red Square.

Hey, Big Boy!

Hi from public art!

The second day was rainy and we took a hop-on-hop-off bus tour, without hopping off until we got really hungry.

We also took the Moscow Metro to pick up our train tickets. The underground of Moscow is as beautiful and fascinating to explore as up above!

The third day, which was also the day we were heading for our Trans-Siberian train ("all aboard" at 11:45 p.m.!), we explored inside the Kremlin.
